Who am I?
I am an amateur photographer based in Inveraray, Mid Argyll. Although I have owned number of cameras since childhood, my interest in photography was rekindled when I worked as a Production Assistant for an Argyll based company, 1759 Production Services. It was a fantastic opportunity to observe some hugely talented fashion photographers and work alongside some well known UK and international brands including Macy’s New York, Johnstons of Elgin and Sweaty Betty.
As a result, I started a daily photo journal back in February 2008 using a borrowed Sony Cybershot compact camera. Initially I thought I would try to keep the journal for ten days but more than ten years later I haven’t missed a single day. There is a saying in photography that you should only show your best work but when you are making an image every day there are always going to be highs and lows. Having said that I hope there are more highs than lows! If you would like to know what equipment I have now visit our “In the Bag” page.
The one thing I have discovered in the last ten years is that you never stop learning and there is always room for improvement. You can buy better equipment but ultimately it’s the person pressing the button that really makes the difference. I consider myself to be a good all-rounder but derive a great deal of pleasure from landscapes and seascapes with street photography coming a close second.
I love sharing my “secret locations” with visiting photographers and once each year in October I host Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk here in Argyll. WWPW2017 will be my 7th year hosting this great free event.
Over the years I have provided photography support at a number of high profile events around Argyll and Glasgow. As well as leading a team of official photographers for the annual Best of the West Festival at Inveraray Castle, my work has been published in the following :
- Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain Magazine 2013.
- BRDC Bulletin and Green Guide for the British Grand Prix 2016 and 2017.
- 17° Magazine, April 2017.
- Cover photograph for Ardkinglas The Biography of a Highland Estate by Christina Noble.
